Joe was born in Swansea, Wales. He began singing classically at the age of fifteen under the tuition of Penny Ryan. He has sung as soloist with the Ariosa Singers. Starting as a bass-baritone he sang the solo in Mozart's Requiem, the role of Curly in Oklahoma!, the role of Pish-Tush in the Welsh National Opera MAX production of The Mikado and gave several solo recitals. Joe gained the grade 8 distinction prize for the highest singing score in the ABRSM, followed by the ATCL performing diploma. In 2004 he was awarded the Swansea Excelsior Choir student scholarship and a place at the world famous Guildhall School of Music Drama.

Joe has since sung the tenor solo in Mendelssohn's Hymn of Praise, Mozart's Requiem, Saint-Saens' Messe de requiem, Bach's Magnificat, Handel's Dettingen Te Deum, Haydn's Nelson Mass and Stainer's Crucifixion. He sang the role of Vandervender in Bernstein's Candide with Welsh National Opera Youth opera and sang in the chorus for Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress at the opening of the Aldeburgh Festival under the baton of Martin Barabbins. In the summer of 2007 Joe appeared in the same opera again but this time understudying the title role of Tom Rakewell.

Joe has recently returned to singing baritone and is now in his final undergraduate year at Guildhall. In January 2008 Joe and his friends together with the Ariosa Singers presented 'A Night at the Opera' in All Saints Oystermouth Swansea. This was highly acclaimed and played to a capacity audience.
